Flames lose, but I move up in the standings update
Good morning poolies:
Remember yesterday when I told y'all we still had 33 perfect pool sheets? Well the red ink flowed Monday night and now we're down to just one. All our hopes and dreams of a 15-for-15 run rest on the shoulders of pool rookie Geoff Hastings — which goes to prove you don't have need to have the conventional spelling of your first name to have pool success. Geoff is one of five poolies to correctly foresee the Anaheim Ducks upset of the President Trophy-winning San Jose Sharks. Others to make call are: Mike James, Richard Woods, Steve Ayres and Yours Truly.
With the Sharks crashing and burning in the playoffs — again — a whole whack of you lost your champion. The Canwest News Service sports desk was hit particularly hard with Barry Horeczy, Dale Oviatt, Dave Gross and Dave Washburn all having their champion fall a scant 14 wins short of hoisting the Cup. Others who also lost a champion (and a realistic shot at winning the pool) are: Adam Fulton, Arthur Casement (who had sole possession of first for about 40 minutes after Chicago won, but before Anaheim did), Debb Coghlin, Jack James, Jeremy McParland, Justin Lee, Laura Drake, Mark Brennae, Mary Kay Hosfield, Sean Hutchinson and Syndey Washburn. Thanks for coming out.
Of course the Calgary Flames — a team many of you know I have a rooting interest in — also bit the dust. The young, speedy Chicago Blackhawks were just too much for the aging, beat up Flames to handle. As a result Jeff Sandelli, Julianna Nowaczek, Leanne Boyd and Lisa Watson all lost their champion.
All of this to say, the leaderboard looks quite different today, so here it is:
(Also I forgot the $ signs and it's late and I'm not going to go back and add them, but they'll be back for Tuesday's post-Game 7s update)
