Double the update, double the fun

The first round is over and I've updated both sides of the pool. You should have received the updates in your email, but if not this post is for the player side of the pool. The team side update and my quick and dirty analysis on Tuesday night's games are located here.

The big news, as things relate to the player pool, was the big night from Sharks forward Jeremy Roenick. J.R. had a break out game, with a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Big news for Kim Landon and everyone else who took the grizzled vet. Also Joffrey Lupul got the overtime winner for the Philadelphia Flyers, and the bonus points helped Mike James mike his move up the standings.

I thought going six for eight in first round was good for me - there are some fantastic players I am up against obviously.

My only questions as there seems to be a heavy load of Flames fans like myself - at least I'm taking that it was a heart pick for the upset - is why continue to play Erickson? And what's with Keenan pulling Kipper, the best Flame on the ice. He didn't steal a game for the team this time around, but he stopped umpteen shots and the Flames were standing still in Game 7. Not to blame Cujo who doesn't get a warmup, but 4-3 with the goal in the third and the Flames make a game of it a lot more often than being stunned by their coach pulling their guy and going down three.

Erickson was indeed brutal.

Pulling Kipper was a mistake, but I'm one of the few people who think it was defensible. You're down by two goals in game seven. The other team is playing better. As a coach you have to do something dramatic to shake things up. I wouldn't have done it myself, but I see where he was coming from.

I actually hope Keenan is able to keep his job. The last thing the Flames need is a fourth coach in as many years.
